Privacy policy

Overlap collects the information you choose to provide, including your name, phone or account identifier, age, home city, travel plans, profile photos, biography, passport countries, messages, contact-sharing preferences, reports, and approximate location checks.

How we use information

We use this information to create your account, find trip overlaps, operate matching and messaging, apply the arrival lock, prevent abuse, respond to support requests, and improve the product. We do not sell personal information or use it for third-party behavioral advertising.

Location

The waitlist uses approximate network location or your browser’s time zone to generate an example city pair. We store the suggested cities and how they were inferred with your signup, not your precise coordinates. These examples are not treated as travel plans.

Location checks are used to determine whether you have arrived inside a destination radius. We store the resulting trip-lock time, not a continuous location history.

Service providers

We use infrastructure and delivery providers such as Apple, Google Firebase, Vercel, and OneSignal. They process data only to provide services to Overlap under their own security and privacy obligations.

Campaign links

When you follow an Overlap campaign link, we use first-party cookies lasting up to 30 days to recognize your browser and connect a waitlist signup to your most recent campaign visit. We store the campaign and UTM parameters, landing destination, visit time, referring site, and approximate country in Firebase. Campaign analytics do not store your raw IP address. We may consistently show one of two landing destinations to compare performance. Browsers sending Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control are excluded from this campaign tracking. You can also clear these cookies in your browser settings.

Retention and deletion

We keep account data while your account is active and as needed for safety, fraud prevention, and legal obligations. You can delete your account and associated profile data inside the app. You can also contact privacy@overlap.travel.

Your choices

You can change notification preferences, contact-sharing settings, profile information, and location permission at any time. You may request access, correction, export, or deletion by contacting privacy@overlap.travel.
